Experienced IP counsel, 10+ years of combined in-house and private boutique IP law firm experience creating, asserting and defending intellectual property portfolios, including drafting and negotiating complex IP and commercial licensing agreements, counseling large and small clients on IP and commercial litigation in federal and state courts as well as before agencies and boards, harvesting innovation, driving global IP strategies in a wide variety of electronic, electrical, mechanical arts, and software (artificial intelligence), prepared infringement and validity studies, participated in numerous complex licensing assertions of IP assets, patent pools, counseled clients on trade secret, trademark and copyright practice and other IP management including open source due diligence and GDPR compliance as well as advised and represented corporations in technology related public policies in an array of forums and regulatory bodies, as well as managed attorneys, patent agents and other support staff.
Experience includes managing global patent portfolios directed to next generation audio and speech codecs, 3G/4G/5G cellular wireless technologies related to various international standards as well as supporting licensing strategies related to SEP portfolios as well as supporting marketing and government relations affecting the rights of SEP holders.
Chair of AIPLA’s Emerging Technologies Committee which includes overseeing discussions of laws and policies to protect IP rights directed to machine learning and deep learning innovations, blockchain, data rights, Internet of Things and Edge/Fog Computing innovations, and cannabis technologies.
