Requirements to the Power of Attorney

In Sri Lanka, simply signed and stamped POA must be provided within 3 months from filing.

Priority document

In Sri Lanka, the certified copy of the priority document must be submitted within 3 months from the filing date.

Opposition period

In Sri Lanka, the trademark may be opposed within 3 months from publication of the application.

Validity term and trademark renewal

 In Sri Lanka, the trademark is valid for 10 years from the filing date. The registration of a trademark may be renewed for consecutive periods of 10 years. The renewal fee shall be paid within the 12 months preceding the expiration date. A grace period of 6 months shall be allowed for the payment of the fee after the date of such expiration, upon payment of a surcharge.

Use requirement

In Sri Lanka, the trademark may be subject to cancellation if it has not been used within five years of its registration.

Representation by a trademark attorney

In Sri Lanka, for foreign applicants, it is necessary to perform trademark prosecution through an agent or a registered trademark attorney.
